An auction run by New York wine merchant, Zachys, and Los Angeles wine dealer, Wally's, netted the price for the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold in the U.S. The prize, an 1847 Château d'Yquem, fetched $71,675, shattering the previous record of $23,929 for a bottle of 1978 Montrachet from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, bought at Sotheby's in 2001. The winning bidder has remained anonymous.
