A puzzlement
The TH-R contradicts itself in its coverage of an alleged campaign strategy of Kiryas Joel's leadership. The newspaper states, "Incumbent Republicans in Monroe had support of the KJ bloc vote (Nov. 10)," yet in the same editorial reveals "a group within the Hasidic village that opposes the ruling KJ bloc, endorsed the Democratic slate ...."
In essence, the TH-R puts KJ residents in a negative light for having two voting blocs - one Republican and one Democratic.
The campaign flyers in question, are alternately referred to as "cagey," "cynical," "deceptive" and "dirty," and are repeatedly pinned to KJ's leadership without any attribution. The illustration (Nov. 10) shows a flyer reading, "Alliance supports Dems," a true statement, yet it is graphically linked to the words "KJ's Ruling Party" and "distributes deceptive flyers."
The editorial scolds, "How do they expect anyone to trust them or sympathize with them when others use anti-KJ feelings as a political weapon," yet neglects to suggest an alternate, more righteous method of dealing with this bias, a bias so ingrained in southern Orange County, it has infiltrated our mainstream press.
