Police Search For Clues In Monsey Attacks
Eyewitness News first reported the story last night. The girls were sexually assaulted near a school, along a path that was once considered a safe shortcut.
Tim Fleischer is live in Monsey with the latest.
The word tonight is to be very cautious if you use that popular path through the woods in Monsey. Also tonight Ramapo police say they are stopping at nothing as they search for a suspect in these two attacks.
Lt. Brad Weidel, Ramapo Police Dept.: "I think he's a dangerous and that's why we're pulling out all the stops."
Poking through the leaves and the underbrush, Ramapo police investigators are combing this wooded area for clues at the site of a second vicious attack on a young girl.
Lt. Brad Weidel: "We feel we're dealing one individual."
The 15-year-old girl was grabbed late yesterday along this well worn path a few steps in from a shopping center parking lot. She was then dragged further into the woods.
Lt. Brad Weidel: "We believe that while he was back there with her he sexually assaulted her, she lost consciousness during the attack and when she awoke he was gone."
The suspect is described as a thin male, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 in height with medium complexion skin wearing dark blue clothing.
This is a similar deion given by an 13-year old who was attacked last week. She was walking from a religious school where police were again searching for addtional clues.
Jacob Przewozman, Beth Rochel School Admin.: "Thank God she wasn't very hurt, she was okay. She wasn't very physically hurt or mentally hurt."
But Yakov Vershubosky is troubled. He has four sisters who attend the school.
Yakov Vershubosky, Area Resident: "I never even thought of telling my sisters. The main thing I told them was crossing the street - it's a two lane highway, and I always tell then to be careful when crossing the street, I never even thought anything like that would happen."
Others are telling their children to stay away from the path, which is a popular cut through between a shopping center and neighborhoods and the school.
Jacob Przewozman: "I have five kids and they've been told not to go on that shortcut."
Lt. Brad Weidel: "We need the public's help here. We need people to be alert especially in that area, of any suspicious activity."
Rampao police have also activated a telephone alert system that sends a recorded message to 5,000 homes in the area in the hopes that someone may have seen the attacker.
