Orange County transportation projects approved
The Orange County Transportation Council yesterday approved the county's five-year Transportation Improvement Plan, which includes 11 new projects totaling over $31 million.
The county has one particular emphasis, and that is to protect the air, said County Executive Edward Diana, chairman of the transportation council. ''One of the main issues is air quality, so we have some funding in there for air quality and what we will do to address that,'' he said.
Among the new projects on the five-year plan are a Route 211 bypass tunnel in the Town of Wallkill, a Kiryas Joel park and ride, Goshen bike and recreational trail system, county-wide trolley bus program, Broadway reconstruction in the City of Newburgh and bridge replacements.
