***S.O.C.A. NEWS UPDATE***

Dear Neighbors,

We are writing today to update you. As you may know, a separate group (Soca-at-Work) has started up and is calling on you frequently. This is not our way. We all have families; we are all working full time or part time or working two jobs just to get by. At the same time, we are also caring for our kids or parents or grandparents or maybe all three (God bless you). If you have five minutes to yourself, we don't want to waste it. That's why S.O.C.A. hasn't peppered you with e-mails or calls. Of course, we update our web site frequently and there is a link for any questions you may have.

However, when we send out a S.O.C.A. ALERT it is something that needs your immediate attention and action. We will be sending you a S.O.C.A. ALERT in the next few days.

S.O.C.A.'s plans: We will fight annexation tooth and nail. There will be no negotiation with anyone who wants to take over our communities piece by piece and reduce our quality of life and destroy our environment!

Consider this: Monroe hasn't had adequate recreation or library facilities for years. Why? It's because Kiryas Joel villagers don't utilize parks and libraries and have opposed improvements over the years. KJ has had a Parks grant of over $200,000 for four years and has never used it! KJ is assisted by a Town of Monroe administration that is more interested in currying the favor of KJ voters than in protecting the interests of the majority of the Town's residents.

Or how about this?: KJ villagers "persuaded" Monroe Planning Board members that a former beer distributing warehouse in the heavy industry zone along Larkin Drive would be used as a "workshop" for young boys to "edit publications." It subsequently became public knowledge that the warehouse was being used as an illegal school for children. Last month, the same Planning Board announced that it will now approve the building's use as a school and said it is "being allowed under the religious mantle!" According to the Random House dictionary, a mantle is a cloak or cover-up or something that conceals. So much for separation of church and state.

Neighbors, our first battle was last year at this time. Because EVERYONE got involved and spoke up, we were heard and listened to. It is time again for us to be heard. We must take back control of our communities and our town boards. We must halt the erosion of zoning law enforcement. We must fight the crime of blockbusting. It will take the efforts of ALL OF US to keep the quality of life we have worked so hard to achieve.
