Gedalye Szegedin, the Administrator of the Village of Kiryas Joel, has offered to sit down to discuss how to carve up the Town of Woodbury. Our counterproposal is simple and non-negotiable: Not One Inch!
Anyone is willing to live anywhere they'd like - as long as they follow local zoning laws. But our towns will remain intact. There will be no change to our towns that would allow zoning laws to be tossed out.
Residents of KJ are welcome to move to any other town and build as their neighbors build. KJ is not welcome to take over any part of our towns so that they can clear-cut the land and build without any constraint.
NOT ONE INCH of Woodbury is available to become part of any other village.
NOT ONE INCH of the Village of Monroe will be clear-cut.
NOT ONE INCH of Blooming Grove will lose its zoning laws.
NOT ONE INCH of Salisbury Mills will be overbuilt to a degree that is environmentally unsustainable.
How much of this is open to negotiation? NOT ONE INCH!
We can prevent annexation. We can prevent the creation of new villages. But we can only do so if the panic selling stops.
People's homes are their single largest investment. Blockbusters play on people's fears that they will lose everything they worked for if they don't sell now. This is bull, but it is self-fulfilling bull. We have not yet reached the point where we are in trouble, but if house after house were to be sold, we would reach that point.
